Default Bose questions

I'm trying to order an A4, but all the dealers I called only have them coming with the Bose system. I'd have to wait an extra 2 months to get it without the Bose system. Originally I planed to get it the Bose system because I assumed that it produced better sound, but then I read all the posts here trashing it and decided against it until I found out that's all I could get.
Does the Bose system actually sounds worse than the stock system, or is it just not worth the extra $$?
Does it have extra features other than sound that the stock system doesn't have such as a CD changer? If so is that a trunk mounted changer or in dash?
Does the head unit look the same for the two?
Any other info would be appreciated.
Thanks...

Default Well,

You really have to go and see which system you prefer. Most people on this board tend to be audiophiles (and are also very into modding their cars) and as a result aren't satisfied with the stock systems. Also, if you plan on upgrading your sound system, it is much more difficult w/ the BOSE.

I find the BOSE to be a good compromise. I tested out the stock system, and though it was good, it wasn't as nice as the BOSE, Imho. Plus, as you state, most dealers have the BOSE system and it's difficult to find a car w/o one.

Both stock and bose systems use a CD changer (separately that can be purcahsed at Clair) that is located in the trunk.

Head units for 2001s are practically identical except for the startup screen.

Default Re: Bose questions

Get the Bose. It really does have a nice sound, and is a good buy.

Default Bose is worth it..

The only thing I think the Bose is lacking in is the bass. The mids and highs are exceptional IMHO. A sub can easily be added using the directions in one of the FAQ's to fill in the lows. Much easier than throwing away the entire standard stereo and going 100% aftermarket.

Default You have obviously never heard a decent aftermarket setup.

Default If you are absolutely certain that you will stick with the stock system,

then get the Bose. I personally hate Bose and everything the company stands for, but that system is marginally better than the non-Bose system. My advice to you is to rip every piece of audio equipment (Bose or not) out of that car the day you take delivery on it and head straight to your local car audio install shop. You'll drop some cash, but it's worth it.
99.5 A4 1.8TQMS APR Stage 1

Default Bose is better than stock...

It's just not good enough for some folks. It's not a grade A1 stereo setup is all. It may not even be worth the $600-ish that you end up paying for it. I got it because I didn't want the hastle of going aftermarket, and after auditioning both stock and bose with my favorite classical CDs, it was obvious that the bose was head and shoulders over stock.

You won't be dissapointed with bose unless you are a hard core audiophile, and it doesn't sound like you are. No matter what it's better than stock. The folks who trash bose always go with prime aftermarket setups.
--
