Bow Tiedown Rope Anchor Point for Canoe on Rack?
I will soon be carrying my canoe on a roof rack and am looking for ideas with regard to a suitable location for an 'anchor' to which I can attach the front bow tiedown rope. Any one out there BTDT?<p>Stephen Kormilo

I strap sea kayaks to my roof...
The front tow ring is offset to the passenger side, but it's the best you can do unless you come up with a rig to safely grab someting like the front wheel wells.

yakima 48" bars with doublecross towers
I exchanged some email awhile back with another Avant owner (Jack Martin) who did more extensive "research" into this (e.g. he owns several different rack systems) and it sounded to me like Yak was the way to go.
Drop me a line and we can share notes and stuff. I was hoping to create a mini-FAQ someday on systems for Avant owners. I have a bunch of pictures of my rack install at home waiting to be scanned. I need 48 hour days!<p>-eric

Thanks. I was hoping for something a little closer to the centre line of the car. Since my canoe is a little wider than a kayak, it will have to be pretty well centred on the car roof. BTW, I too decided on Yakima.<p>Stephen Kormilo
