Default brake job - worth attempting?

Time to replace the ft pads and have rotors turned. Dealer want's $400 (they don't believe in turning rotors). Family mechanic says $120 w/ turning the rotors...mentioned they're a pain in the *** to remove. I Need help here. I've always done my own brake work (Paseo, Explorer, Honda, Toyota 4x4,etc.) How much of a pain is replacing the pads / removing rotors on a A4-1.8tQ ?

Default It's easy.... I've done it three times, about to go change pads againg today

Two bolts hold on the outer part of the caliper. Take those out and the pads are easy to change.

Once you hace that part off... you will see the two larger bolts holding the rest of the caliper onto the car. Take those off and the rotor will fall right off.

I think there is something in the Tech section on how to do this exactly.

Email me if you have questions.

Default THANX

thanks guy's I'm gonna price out pads now...
I just replaced them on the Paseo yesterday...25 minutes and done. I just didn't know if anything was funky on Audi's since this is our 1st one and only owned it a year. It's now up for sale (time to upgrade to a newer 1.8tQ or S4) and just looking for a set of reasonable pads to put on. Advance Auto has Semi-Metallic's for $39.99, anybody know of a cheaper price on similar quality?

Default Very nice writeup from Spider418 from just the other day on replacing pads.

It includes lots of pictures to give you an idea. God luck!
