Default Brake noise, new pads & rotor question

When I brake to a standstill I hear a hard to descibe wheezing sound as the car slows. I also find the brakes a bit unresponsive and "squishy." According to the service shop (who took a look) the brakes are OK and the lining is fine, but just to be sure they cleaned out some brake dust that had got in there. Could brake dust account for the noise I describe? Just how silent should the car be when it brakes?

Would replacing the stock pads with Mintex red box or some other pads help? Also, is there any point in replacing the stock rotors with ATE or Zimmerman rotors (and if so, which would you recommend)?

Thanks.
kl

Default Mintex greatly reduce the dust.

Default DBA rotors -- how do they compare to ATE or Zimmerman?

Will replacement rotors improve performance or just reduce brake heat?

Also, which Mintex pads would you get?

Thanks.
kl

Default EBC Green Stuff pads are virtually dust-free...

Default Be reducing the heat, it should reduce brake fade

Default Brake fade occurs when you push your car hard and the brakes heat up.

The results are loss of braking ability. If one does autocross and track use - your brakes will get hot enough to warp the rotors unless you use rotors and pads designed for that use (though then the brakes will squeel and not be effective until they warm up.)

The DBA rotors are designed for street use only. They greatly improved the looks - and I have not pushed my car hard enough to feel and difference.

Default Explanation of brake fade

Basically.......as the brakes heat up, the coefficient of friction decreases, so they don't stop as well; the hotter they are, the "slicker" they are.

http://www.e-z.net/~ts/ts/Brakfade.htm</a
