Brake pads revisited, esp. Ferodo, Mintex, Axxis...

I've been searching for info on which brake pads to put onto my 98.5. Like everyone else, I am searching for the perfect balance of increased performance and reduced dust.
In talking with a few different tuners, I narrowed my choices down to Ferodo DS2000 or Mintex C-tech 1144.
Either one would perform better than stock, and the Ferodo probably has less dust.
I just did a search of the archives, and I found mixed reviews about Ferodo pads. Some people were complaing about reduced performance, spongy feel, loud squeal...
But the posts which specifically mentioned the DS2000 pads were very high recommendations.
Were those negative posts perhaps about *other* Ferodo pads ? Or do people have these complaints about the DS2000 as well ?
The C-Tech looks appealing for performance, but the dust might bother me.
A friend of mine who has a lot of track experience recommended the Axxis (previously Repco) Metal Masters, as a good dual-use pad. But I am not sure if they are available for the A4 yet.
Any thoughts,
Peter

PS I live in NYC, so there is a lot of stop-and-go driving.

The popular opinion is that the RedBox offers similar performance to the stock pads, but with less dust.
I do a lot of stop-and-go driving, and I also want to get into doing some track events.
I can live with the dust, if I got increased performance to go with it. That's why I am considering the C-tech.
Also the Ferodo DS2000 seems to get good reviews for performance (if not quite as aggressive as the C-tech), but is not quite as dusty.
Also trying to find if Axxis is available for A4.

performance until they are well warmed up and that they actually give inferior performance when cold. If that is true, then they would be great for track events but not so great in everyday street use.
Why not a street pad for street use and put the c-techs on when you track it.<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=161"</a><img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/a4registrydl.jpg" BORDER=0></a>

...I remember reading stuff in the past prior to purchasing my first set of pads for my A4. I too was interested in a set of their "Deluxe" pads for my A4 as I had good luck with a set on my old VW Corrado. I seem to remember reading that they only had them for the rear....with no fitment for the front. Now that was 2 years ago, so maybe their available for all 4 corners now.<p>Andy Hedin

So all low speed stops will be noisy. It is my belief that you need two sets of pads if you plan to make your daily commute vehicle a track car
