I have 68,000 on my 98 a4 with the original pads and am in need of brakes. Do the rotors have to be replaced also? or are they good for a few more miles. If not what would be the cost for rotors nowadays??
thank you

...of course check out the thickness prior to ordering everything in case there is still enough life left in them. But I'd figure on replacing the fronts for sure and possibly the rears also.
I ordered my ATE PowerDisc slotted rotors from Adirondack Auto Brokers for about $56 each for fronts.

Adirondack Auto Brokers

I'm getting my new brakes put on today at Audi Performance in Atlanta. Midas quoted me about $707 for OEM parts (about $160 each for front rotors, $130 each for rear rotors, $90 front pads, & $40 for rear pads). NOT!!!! I got on the internet and got much better parts for about $475 incl shipping. Carparts.com has PowerSlot slotted rotors (approx. $81 each for front rotors & $77 each for rear rotors), and RapidParts.com had Mintex Red Box pads (approx. $70 for fronts & $40 for rears). The Powerslot rotors I believe are Brembo rotors with slots machined by Powerslot. Audi Performance commented on the high quality of the rotors and were curious where I got them. They actually preferred the slotted rotors over cross-drilled for long life (i.e. daily driving) because the cross-drilled can't be machined and are more prone to developing cracks.
