Default brake rotor removal

I am trying to remove the rear rotors from my '98 A4 Avant quattro. I assume the large bolt in the middle of the rotor must be removed with a 14mm allen wrench and a whole lot of torque. I applied a good amount of torque using a 14mm, 1/2" drive allen socket and breaker bar and pipe extension, and these bolts will not come loose. Are both sides a normal thread, or is one or both reverse threaded? How much torque are we talking? What kind of tool setup will deliver this torque?
After I get the big bolt out, does the caliper mount need to be removed to pull the rotor off?
Is the procedure the same for the front rotors?
Thanks very much for advice on this procedure.

Default No, don't remove that center bolt!! That's the axle bolt. The rotor will likely just....

need a few taps from a hammer to break the corrosive bond between it and the hub. There is nothing holing the rotor to the hub normally.

Just remove caliper bracket. Rotor should come off.

Default The axle bolt is 27mm. The caliper mount is held onto the wheel bearing assembly with...

the 14 mm allen. These have to come off first. I am really surprised that the allen bolts are on that tight.

The rotor simply sits on the hub. A a bit of corrosion may make it stick and it may look like it is fused to the hub. A couple taps with a hammer (not on the braking surface, obviously) should free it up.

Default Um, no. The allens on the caliper are not 14mm.

If memory serves, the carrier is held on with 17mm hex head bolts in front, and 8mm allens in the rear (though they could be 17mm hex head bolts)

On the front, the claiper is held to the carrier with 6 (or 8)mm allens (actually the guide pins)

On the rear, the caliper is held to the carrier (guide pins) with 13mm hex head bolts.

The axle bolt on some cars is 24mm, or that huge 14mm allen. Here is a pic of what he is referring to..
