Brake shimmy description w/ question(s)

I have a 1999 A4 1.8TQMS with 31,000 miles on it.
I have been recently experiencing a "shakey" feeling in the brake pedal at highway speeds above 75 MPH.........that is, when I'm going at speeds above 75 MPH, and then hit the brakes to slow down, I can feel a shimmy-shakey (good description heh?)in the brake pedal. While in the city, I cannot feel this in the brake pedal--even at 55 MPH.
My assessment is that the front rotors are a little warped.
Question:
Is it possible to get these stock rotors "turned" to get rid of this little annoying thing? Or is there something else that I need to do?
I plan on upgrading the brakes in about 10,000 miles, that's if the stocks last that long. But for now that's whats on my car.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated......any suggestions on what brakes rotors and pads to get in a while are very welcome as well--I drive in the city a lot, so that is a factor. Also I would like to keep the stock calipers on.
THANKS to all that reply..........

The caliper carrier can probably follow the warp at lower speeds so ther is no pulsing in the pedal. At the higher speeds it may not be able to follow the warp and that is why the pulsing occurs only there.
My personal opinion on turning rotors to correct for warp is dont. It isnt often a fix and the problem just returns. The Audi rotors dont allow for a whole lot of machining in the first place. I think the max thickness reduction is something like 4mm from new.
It sort of sounds like you might want to move up your plans to upgrade your brakes.
I like the look of larger brakes but frankly the stock setup seems to work real well on the street (to the point where - with the addition of the EBC Green pads - I tend to worry more about the guy behind me being able to stop than me getting stopped). Like I said I am using EBC Green with stock rotors and calipers. I have only slightly entertained the notion of larger brakes and not enough to have any opinions.
2001 A4 1.8TQMS

EBC green brakes pads?.....
Are you running front & back EBC brakes pads?....
How much did it cost you?
Is it alright to replace just front pads with the EBC greens?
Thanks!

...To all your questions.
They list for $99 front $49 rear. The EBC-USA office sells them at that. One of the distributors may sell for less. Check the Performance forum - someone listed a distributor in Fla. in the last day or so - Subject was EBC Green (something).
2001 A4 1.8TQMS

to put the wheels back on. The lug nuts do not like this. The rotors hate this. The rotors can become badly warped over time if not treated with a torque wrench!
Nick N.
