Default Which Brakes???

I'm thinking about getting a SC for my 2001 2.8 and I'd like to get a brake upgrade. I'm not the most agressive driver, but I would something with a bit more stopping power. What is the most bang for the buck?

Default Bang For the Buck: A set of good pads would increase your braking performance.

However, something relatively inexpensive that is worthwhile upgrade for the average driver is the A8 brake upgrade. Go to www.ecstuning.com for details on that.

Basically, you increase your rotor size by roughly an inch. The increased leverage coupled with better pads should give you improved braking. Improvement by how much? I don't have any solid numbers, but it is a popular upgrade that many people on the forums will agree to be effective.

I've bought all the parts for the A8 brake upgrade, but have yet to install it. It will probably happen within the next month, and I will offer better comments then.

Default i can't really remember, but isn't the point of a BBK mostly to reduce fade, not stopping

distance?

Default Fading is more of a concern for people who take their cars to AutoX and Track...

Fade rarely ever is an issue in street driving... which is why the A8 upgrade is such a popular upgrade for the people who don't track their cars. It increases braking force at a moderate cost.

For moderately aggressive street driving, BBK isn't really necessary. It's the constant braking and accelerating in a track situation that roasts the brakes.

I've got a set of brembo's on the SLK about a year ago. It made a huge difference in the track. On the street, I found the stock brakes to be better since I didn't have to "warm up" the brakes during the winter months for it to work well.

Default I recommended the A8 upgrade because laxman1100 was looking for something with more stopping power.

If he seemed like a track junkie... I would've recommended Stoptechs or Brembos...

Default Good pads and good tires..

These will go a long way in shortening your stopping distance and improving fade resistance.

While a big brake setup will help against fade, a good pad and fluid is usually more than enough for even agressive street drivers.

Check into the Carbotech Bobcat pads, Hawk HPS, Pagid Blue, along with some good fluid like ATE Gold, or MotulRBF600.

Default Mike, do you guys sell Pagid Blues?

If so, mind sharing some pricing for front and rear?

Thanks

Default That "warm up" period is just a function of pad choice.

A good street pad should not require that warm up period.

Default porsche upgrade with A8 rotors

once you have the calipers, you can go bigger rotors eventually.
