Default Breather hose gunk!

Ok after breaking my old breather hose i found a large amount of sledge, gunk, red, oil, crap in there. In some parts including right next to where they connect to the engine it is almost cutting the space in half inside the tube. When i got the car the hose was taped in a couple places. Not sure how great the seal was. Could it just be ouside junk sucked in there over time or is this comming from the engine?

Default It's normal to have buildup in them. Mine were pretty gross.

I tried cleaning them, but I couldn't ever get them good enough, plus I broke one so I just replaced them.

Default I sprayed a lot of simple green in mine, let it sit for a while, then hooked it up to the garden hose

Cranked the hose on full blast (we have good water pressure). Lots of black goo came out

Dried them out by blowing compressed air through them, and let sit for an hour.

Default Im about to tackle the PCV cleaning, and seeing how..

my breather hoses have held up since July when I cleaned them and replaced the valve cover gaskets. The pass side hose on which the gasket was shot, was totally clogged. It took me a good hour and lots of heavy duty cleaners to unclog it.

While cleaning the PCV Im also going to replace the intake plenum gasket, which might be causing my lean codes..I hope.

Nice car by the way..

Default from the motor. in the winter cold, condensation and oil mix to form that white gunk

esp if the car does a lot of short trips in the winter nothing gets hot enough to burn off. on my 96 which my wife drove to work (short trip about 10 min) i would pull the hose off a couple of times every winter and clean it out, it would be completely clogged.

Default

comes from sludge or bad oil. I used brake cleaner to clear mine.
