they are bit of overkill for most conditions I see in Connecticut. For trips to Vermont last winter, they came in very handy. Depending on where you are, these may not be the best tire.

....Every snow tire strikes some sort of a compromise between dry pavement handling and snow-worthiness. Blizzaks are supposed to be among the very best for snow. But if you aren't in constant snow conditions, another tire may be a better choice. Since 80% of my winter driving is on dry or merely wet pavement, I chose Pirelli 210A's, which are very good in the snow but have markedly better handling than Blizzaks (so said the knowledgeable folks at Tirerack) on dry/wet pavement.

on my old honda civic si. two reasons:
1) they are absolutely unmatched on ice, packed snow, and deep snow (i.e. deeper than ground clearance).
i used them in alaska and now in colorado
2) if you drive like i do, they wear out really fast. the first "layer", a multi-cell compound wears away like a pencil eraser. rotate them often, and don't expect two full seasons out of them. it tried yokohama guardex 600 last year, they last longer, but are inferior on ice, snow, and gravel.
i haven't decided whether to get them for my quattro, or to go studded. i live at the top of a set of steep hills on colorado, and some days...<p>boki
