Broken ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Wire
A couple of days ago, the ABS light on our '99 A4 started coming on when starting the car, and stays on all the time. No red brake warning light or beeps. After reading all of the post on AudiWorld on the subject, I decided to check for continuity on all of the wheel speed sensors.
The first wheel I removed was the left front... and the cause of the warning light was immediately obvious. The wire leading up to the sensor was ripped apart at the strain relief that mounts the wire to the suspension. (See images)
This raises a number of questions:
1. How could this happen? My wife, who drives the cars, hasn't hit any major bumps or potholes.
2. Just a few weeks ago, the dealer replaced the CV boot on that wheel... could they have caused this?
3. Looking at the images, does it appear that the wire is routed correctly?
4. This wire looks like its a part of a big and not easily accessible wiring harness... what's it going to cost me to get it fixed? And should I blame the dealer for making this wire snap?
5. Is this a common problem? I've searched all of Audiworld, and have not seen any posts that describe this issue.
Thanks,
