Premium bulbs have 30-50% higher light output than regular 55W bulbs.

I don't know what year A4 you drive, but my '96's DOT headlights must have be the worst lights I have ever seen on a German car. The beam pattern and light output sucked worse than sealed beams. I guess Audi decided it wasn't worth designing decent lights for the 96 A4.

I replaced my DOT lights with two-piece non-projector ecodes with the intergrated fog lights. Those lights are great! They have well-designed reflectors and glass diffusers. The beam pattern is very good, brightness has doubled.

I use Philips Vision Plus bulbs.

I'll let you know when I get them. I tried MTEC from EBay they where definitely blue but output sucks. I found some 65watt h7 for $60.00 plus shipping good quality 2100 lumens output. I wish I would have ordered those. If you were going to spend that much maybe you should try them and let us know. For reference Xenon is usually 3200 lumens and the Philips Vision Plus are 1590 Lumens<ul><li><a href="http://lighting.mbz.org/home.html">Link</a></li></ul>

I swap between both PIAA and SilverStars on mine. I believe the projector light housing are the best thing to get for the Audi's because the US lens' pre-97 (IMO) aren't that great. :-(
