I posted a few forums ago that my outside temperature sensor had gone bad and was displaying temperatures lower that outside. This had not affected the performance of the air conditioning system until the sensor went completely waco and started thinking that winter had arrived. As soon as the temperature reading dropped below 2 deg C the compressor stopped working. The system was still trying to bring the temperature at the setting of 20 deg C but was unsuccessfully blasting me with hot air. I took the car to the dealer and the part is on backorder.
Bottom line, this temperature sensor has full control of the air conditioner compressor functionality. Unless it is working properly it can make your life miserable especially now that the eastern part of the country is being baked under a heat wave.
