Is buying a high flow cat worth it?

Are you still going to run the stock downpipe? Not very many cats will fit in the stock location. Turbo5 makes a nice downpipe & cat, but it is expensive. TAP also makes one, but it takes a little work to get it to fit.
This is what I'm going to do:
Get a 3" cat, mount it under the car and have a shop fabricate a 3" pipe from the turbo to the cat inlet, then have an adapter go from the 3" cat outlet to whatever the aftermarket exhaust is.
By relocating the cat you remove a heat source from the engine bay. You also decrease the spool up time, especially if you go 3". 2.5" will also work well (don't go any smaller). Some shops can't bend 3" pipe, others can (make sure it is MANDREL bent)
You'll also want to try to integrate a flex pipe too. I believe Ed P. has a spare 2.5" flex pipe which you could mount after the cat if you go 3", or before it if you go 2.5".
IMO, it's worth it, but you can do it anytime after you have your intake and exhaust put in.
