Noob question here, got a 98 1.8 a few weeks ago. I know that blow off valve makes that "woosh" sound when you shift, but what does a Bypass valve do? Which is better for my car? Thanks.

it sends air that has already been measured into the atmosphere, having more gas than what you are supposed to have for that amount of air in ur cylinders, at least thats what i think happens but ya some blow off valves can work with your car. A bypass valve and an intake can give you a very similar sound.

and you'll see lots of people repost the blatherings of others as their own wisdsom when it reality they dont know how to drive or tune.
like anything, it depends what you are trying to achieve. some people around here get kinda focused on theory over real world experence. after they've talked about something for a wile they act like they they've tried it a million times and know all the angles.
they arnt really nessisary unless you have a big HP car so unless do, spend the money elese where.
the concern is with how the much the fuel trim is effected my purging the metered air between ****s.you can run a little rich between shiffs with out doing any harm but if it gets rich enough you start to loose power. then again you might get lucky and shoot some flames from your exhaust!!!
if he wants one, he should get one and make it work. the car will be fine! just make sure you dont blow all your TB money on a bpv.
