A/C Compressor - Clutch or Bearing?
Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum and I have a 99 A4 Quattro 2.8L. Smoke started to pour out of the engine bay as I was driving down the road and after removing the serpentine belt, I discovered that the pulley for the A/C compressor is wabbling back and forth badly. When I spin it, you can hear and feel a grinding noise.
I believe the bearings are shot in it. I haven't pulled the Compressor out and my question is does anyone know whether the issue is the A/C clutch or perhaps a bearing? The compressor still works, but smokes and makes a racket. I don't know how the compressor is put together, but when I look online all I can seem to find to fix it is a new compressor or a bearing. Can the A/C clutch even be replaced without replacing the entire compressor?
Thank you guys!
