Default Camshaft Chain Tensioner removal

I'm in the process of planning over the next few days camshaft seal replacement. I also need to remove the the camshaft/tension assembly in order to replace the small gasket underneath the chain tensioner/cam chaft adjuster and I'll need to remove the tensioner by compressing it. Is the tool a simply device i can make it my garage? My question is what will I need specifically to remove this properly? My haynes manual just says to purchase it or make it..

I just did this on my Passat, but I was replacing the tensioner itself and it came with the tool. Nothing complicated about the tool, it's just a long bolt that threads into the bottom of the tensioner and an l-shaped piece that grabs the block that the chain runs over on the top. The only tough part would be making it wide enough to grab the block the chain slides over without making it so wide it interferes with the chain.

You don't have to remove it. Just compress it with the tool and unbolt it. Have you looked at the write-ups in the tech section?

i do these alot, just compress and pry up and i used compressed air with brake cleaner at the same time and it cleans the area between them near perfect. A slight bit of silicone on the edges of the rubber half moon make a perfect seal.

I have not looked it up in the tech sections. I've only looked it up via haynes repair book.
