Default Camshaft position sensor code - not going away

Scanned my friends 1.8T AEB quattro manual (car was hard to start, stalls, no power at low revs, misfire on cyl 3, etc.). Sometimes boost limited.

No surprise, cam shaft position sensor code:

17746 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40)
P1338 - 35-00 - Open or Short to Plus

Put in new sensor: same
Ok, bad sensor. Next: same.

5 psi boost limited, cam code.

Wiring bad?

Can anyone tell me how to trace the wiring (from cam sensor connector to - I assume - ECU)?

Anyone ever do a timing belt on it? They got it off a tooth if its setting the code. As far as wiring, your gonna have to look at wire diagrams and unhook the ecu, and probe from each wire going from the ecu to the Sensor. If thats good, the timing is perfect, then ECU is bad

Reinstall the new sensor and unhook both the positive and negative battery cables once they are unhooked touch both of them together for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

This is a static discharge, it will clear all the codes in the ECU and reset all the electronics.

Reattach the battery cables and see if that helps with the issue.

Good luck!

I had disconnected battery for 2 min (negative only). Big difference to 'disconnect and touch plus/minus'?

ECU swap results coming up soon.

Need wiring diagrams/pin out for ECU to check cam pos sensor wires.
Can someone post? Or pin number cam pos sensor connector and matchin ecu pins?

Yes there is a big difference when you disconnect the positive and negative then touch them together. This completely drains the electrical system of all power.

ECU: no difference, same code.
Brand new 'known good' (vs the 2 previous sensors just 'assumed good') no difference, same code.

Must be the connector or wiring.

Does someone have the ECU pin out for the AEB, or knows which pins the cam sensor go to?

Yeah. If anything, disconnect negative will drain/reset as well. Maybe not as quick as shortening.

But not the issue here; disconnect/wait, shorten, VAGcom reset, ECU swap, sensor swap: code comes right back.

Need wiring diagram for the cam sensor, and ECU pin out for the cam sensor connector.

Anyone?

ECU diagram and cam sensor check.
The 3 pins of the cam sensor G40 seem to connect to pin
67, 76, 11

Should I check for continuity from the connector to the ECU pin?
Does someone have a schematic showing the pin numbers/locations of the ECU pins?
