The bolt and diamond rotate eccentricly. My worst fear is that, as you mentioned, the camshaft is bent. HOWEVER, is it entirely coincidental that I noticed this after performing the gasket service? If its unrelated, how long could I have been driving with a bent camshaft... while I'm no mechanical genius, that seems like a pretty serious issue!!

does it move in/out from the head? or does the belt stay in a perfect line, but just jump up and down?

It doesn't appear to move in/out any... just side to side (and potentially up and down). I've only looked directly down on the bolt, not from the side.

Ok, so, the video didnt work. Grainy, poor resolution, no help.
I have discovered something new, however. I put my face 10 inches away from the spinning sprocket while the car idled, and discovered that there are only certain parts that are spinning off center.
Upon close inspection, the whole attachment on the exterior of the engine consists of: a bolt, a large thick washer thing, the diamond alignment bar, and the sprocket. All clearly seen here:
https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/1845508.phtml.
The big washer thing between the bolt and diamond is not centered on the diamond on the driver's side. While spinning, the sprocket itself appears to rotate straight and center. The diamond alignment bar does as well. The visual shape it makes while spinning is a perfect circle. The washer and bolt, however, are what appear to be spinning eccentricly. This would only seem to make sense, however, if the bolt and big washer aligned perfectly, but the bolt didnt go directly into the center of the diamond and sprocket.
Knowing nothing about this sprocket setup, I don't know if this is possible... dont know if this is something to worry about, or only an off-center washer "illusion".
I am going to loosen the bolt, center the washer thing and retighten after i get the torque specs, but I dont want to screw up timing.
Sorry if I'm confusing... but this is my best explanation!!!<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/1845508.phtml">Sprocket, diamond, washer, bolt</a></li></ul>
