I started driving this morning...I went over a bump and I hear a LOUD clunking sound coming from the driver's side rear suspension.
The sound continued for the rest of the day, plus, it feels like the suspension is loose or something in the rear. It only makes the noise when I go over medium bumps.
I have a '97 A4 1.8T Quattro w/ 90k miles and H&R coilovers since 20k miles.

and the reason for this was that the bolts that go into the strut tower from the bottom came loose, due to poor install on springs. A bad control arm sounds like all the grease leaked out and you're rubbing metal on metal. It's a nasty sound. How do you like your coilovers?

It was coming from my front right wheel. You could only hear it at slow speeds. I didn't get it fixed right away and as a week passed I could push down the front right wheel and hear the problem. Hope that helps.

I have the OG H&R coilovers (gen 1) and they're from Europe (euro-spec?). They're too soft for my taste, but I got a REALLY good deal on them, so I couldn't pass it up.
I hear I can send them Bilstein and get the shocks re-valved to ride more sporty. But it's like $80/shock and a two week turn-around.

I am looking to buy a 1996 A4. It has 125,000 and is only $6,250. Today when turning at slow speeds on a test drive I noticed a creaking on the front right wheel. How much does it cost to replace the control arms if they are broken?
