Can anyone help me diagnose an intense vibration that my car just started making...

a couple weeks ago. I have an '00 1.8T and it happens when the engine is between 2400 and 3000 rpms (most noticeable in higher gears like 5th). I know that the 1.8T is rough in this rev range, but recently it got much worse. I communte for about an hour going about 60-65 mph. A couple weeks ago, I noticed that my fingertips on the hand the I keep on the wheel were numb and tingling after my ride home from work (like when you use a lawn mower with an blade that's not balanced). It's gotten worse and now the interior panels are rattling from this vibration. I don't think that it is the alignment because the vibration is significantly reduced if I shift to neutral or if I downshift and the rpms exceed 3200 rpms. The vibration also was significantly reduced when I added some Redline fuel additive to the gas. The engine also idles very rough when cold (when the electric chocke is on). I have the stock program in my ECU. Any ideas of what may be wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have an appt. at the stealer next week but they'll probably just try to blow the problem off in typical fashion. Thanks

What you're describing doesn't sound like something that would be dismissed as "within spec". Pull the DTC's from the car...there will likely be something there that will take the guesswork out of this.

My free maintainance just ended at 50k and I suspect the stealer was not servicing the car properly. When I bought the car the 30k service was done, I asked if the plugs had been changed like it says they should be in the manual. The stealer told me no they didn't because they change them every 20k. If they were in fact changed at 20k, they would need to be replaced at 50k. But I use a new stealer that's closer to my home for service now. They probably assumed the plugs had been changed at 30k and good until 60k. I'll check the plugs tomorrow.

It's usually not a coincidence when a problem occurs shortly after something was "fixed". If they don't find any codes, that's definitely something I would revisit with them. Maybe ask them to replace the mount, rather than "adjust" it (whatever that means).
