I'd go for the thermostat and timing belt tensioner as long as you are in there too

Might as well do the other belts while you're there...serpentine, A/C, etc

according to audi the timing belt is not a part of the 60,000 but changed that timing belt and tensioners, and get a warranty

Default Here's what I've found

I'm getting quotes from independent mechanics to do a timing belt and serpentine belt change on my 98.5 1.8T w/57,000 miles. I got the following from the archives but still have a question or two...

I will replace:

-Timing belt with updated tensioner
-Water pump w/gasket and V-belt
-Front lower crank seal
-Pentosin antifreeze
-Thermostat
-Serpentine belt for alternator and PS
-Serpentine belt for AC
-Serpentine belt rollers

I had originally included the Serpentine tensioner but was told by one mechanic that this part almost never goes bad and is expensive to replace (like $300+).

There has also been mention of an Idler Pulley that can be done as well but I haven't been able to determine what it is exactly Also, I am not 100% sure what is/is not included in the belt 'kits' sold by dealers.

Oh yeah, I'll probably have an APR Snub mount put in since the front end will be apart anyway. I'm not sure of what advantage there'll be on a Tip - but what the hell...
