can the audi keyless remote feature be added to those that don't have it?

Not sure for 96 MY, but here is the discription for the 97 MY.
Keyless Entry - Remote Locking Option
Group: O1
Number: 97-02
Date: Jan. 22, 1997
Subject:
Remote Locking, Activation
Model(s):
A4, A6 without 1997Remote Locking Option
Condition
Vehicle not ordered with remote locking option.
Service
Vehicles not ordered with remote locking option can be retrofitted with this option providing the following conditions are met:
^ Vehicle must be equipped with central locking pump Part No: 8L0 862 257B (May be installed at customer's expense). If pump replacement is necessary see appropriate Repair Manual for pump replacement instructions.
^ Customer must purchase remote 2 button key fobs Part No: 8L0 959 753 01C
If conditions are met, proceed by coding control module as follows:
Coding Control Module:
- Connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool.
- Switch ignition ON.
Indicated on display:
- Press buttons 3 and 5 to select Address word 35.
Indicated on display:
- Press --> button to advance.
Indicated on display:
- Press buttons 0 and 7 to select Function 07 "Code Control Module"
- Press Q button to confirm input.
Indicated on display:
- Input code 12172.
- Press Q button to confirm
Indicated on display:
- Press buttons 0 and 6 to select Function 06 "End Output".
- Disconnect 1551 Scan Tool.
After coding Control Module, program remote unit(s) as follows:
Programming remote unit
- Switch ignition ON.
- Lock vehicle mechanically at left front door using second key.
- Press "Open" button on first remote unit (key fob) once (to assign memory address to remote unit number one).
Note: The alarm horn will sound briefly each time the "Open" button is pressed to confirm the reception of the signal during this process.
- Wait six seconds after sending last signal, then press "Open" button again.
^ Doors will now unlock (remote unit is now programmed).
- Lock vehicle mechanically again using second key.
- Press "Open" button on second remote unit (key fob) twice at 1 second intervals (to assign memory address to remote unit number two).
- Wait six seconds after sending last signal, then press unlock button again.
^ Doors will now unlock (2nd transmitter is now programmed).
- Repeat procedure for additional remote units (key fobs) to assign memory addresses number 3 and 4 if necessary.
- Switch ignition OFF.
- Check each transmitter for proper function

Can the switch blade remote work on my 1997 A4...or do I need to get the the two button with lock/unlock/ and panic in the front...
