I have a 1997 a4 1.8t and I would like to change my automatic to tiptronic. Can an Audi dealership make it possible for me????

Default Cameron has done it

Search through Cameron's posts to see some in-depth detail about what he did. I believe he said that the cost was about $1100 in parts, plus the cost of the work.

Default Yes, but....

Cameron went from a Tip to an Automatic, not visa versa.
Anyway, my suggestion to anyone considering any type of trans. swap is to sell their car and but the car with the trans. they want. The only reason that Cameron did it was that the car was already upgraded to a certain level already.
There are many parts involved and many labor hours.

Default typo

That was supposed to read "buy" the car with the transmission you want (not "but") ;-O

Default You sure?

Cathleen, I recall Cameron saying that his car was an Auto that became a Tip that became a Manual. One of the reasons is that his car is an early 97 and there was no Tip at that time. Also, why would someone go from Tip to Auto? I recall that he wanted to try it out and then quickly realised that a manual was the only way to go. The roll cage was the only reason why he didn't get another car...

Default Correct. I'm wearing EGG

Ever have one of those days? Umm, my face is red with egg on it and I'm verbally abusing myself at this moment. I keep muttering things like "think before you speak, read before you post to make sure you're fingers and brain are on the same page." I feel like an idiot. Of course you know this means complete loss of any credibility. ;-O
I know about Cameron's upgrades...I'm just retarded today, apparently. Cameron's '97 1.8T tranny conversions were Auto to Tip to Manual.

For some reason, I had a mental breakdown and I'm typing/thinking the word Auto when I meant Manual and I'm basically thinking dyslexically (new word?) today.
The Tip to MANUAL (whew....think I'm getting back to normal now) was a rather parts-labor-intensive swap. I meant to say that was the upgrade he had that was expensive. BTW, it does drive better, smoother and better throws than my OEM 5 speed.
Now, that said. I do recall that the Auto to Tip was easier, per Cameron. I guess he should give his opinion on how well he felt that upgrade was and if it was worth the money. I only drove his car with the Tip conversion once. So my experience with it in that mode, was quite limited.
