Default Can I chip my lease vehicle??

I'm thinking of chipping my 2000 1.8TQMS, but it's a lease vehicle. Is this a bad idea? What are the implications if caught? Anybody out there done it before or have any recommendations? If I do chip, what's best place in NorCal to get it done? I need some more speed, 150bhp is DEFINITELY NOT cutting it for me. Looks can only go so far...

Default About $500...

I am in the same place, with a 2000 1.8T QM. Dick at Dynospot told me he is willing to lend stock ECU's to people when they take their car in for maintenance, if they buy a Garrett chip from him. I test drove a Garrett chip last weekend and found that it had incredible torque, and the word is that its smoother than the APR. I can attest that it is smoother than the stock chip

Default Chip recommendation

Charles, thanx for the post. Which chip do you recommend: APR, Neuspeed, etc. Also, can you switch ECU manually by yourself? Not sure how you can swap them before service.

Default Chipped my leased car today...

I didn't lease through AFS, so Audi has NO connection with the leasing agency. I just have to turn the car back in in working order, and stock. Truthfully, if the car holds up well, I plan to buy it, but if I do end up turning it back in, I will just post the chip for sale...in exchange for a core ECU from the buyer (ECU swap). I don't think it should be too much of a problem. As for the next three years of my lease...there will be no chip swapping for me (I don't think I need to pay another $600 to have an ECU sit in my trunk). ECU failures are exceedingly rare. Check the archives.

Default Yup, that's about it!

If you check out my thread below asking about the revolutionary APR chip, you will understand my dilema. But I think I am going to go for the GAIC (Garrett) chip. I have tried it and it works, which means alot. Also, there is a guy in Mountain View (close to me) who is licensed by Garrett. No need to send the ECU off for a few days to get it installed, and whenever you want an upgrade (most ship makers give free upgrades or at least really cheap ones). And in his words, if APR is coming out with something revolutionary, you can bet Garrett will be right behind (I hope!) with an available upgrade.

Default Re: About $500...

Charles,

Was this at the Northern Cal Audi Club get together? This was my first visit to one, and definately fun and interesting to see the short shifter upgrades, dyno testing, and talk shop with Dick and others. Does Dick generaly allow a quick swap for a test drive?
