Can I get some help from the PES T28 gurus out there??
I am looking to buy an avant with the t28 kit on it. The guy says that there is an exhaust leak between the hotside of the turbo and the manifold, and that it was due to the fact that the turbo is designed for an older skyline. He said technically I would just need a new hotside that will mate correctly with the PES manifold. Is that possible?
In addition, after talking to bryan at ASW, he said that was a fairly common fitment issue with those kits, especially the earlier ones...So has anyone else experienced this who might have some insight?
Also, I am trying to figure out what the difference(if any)there is between the PES T28 turbo and the JDM Nissan T28 turbo? Clipped wheels?
HELP!

I think mine has a small leak as well but nothing that alarms me...
I believe you can simply get a new hotside with a T25 flange and .64AR. When my studs broke and I was thinking about getting a new hotside this is what I came across. I wound up getting the the broken studs removed so I never tried it. However, the T-28 housing looked identical and it wasn't some super mega custom turbo. I heard that only the impellar was tweaked to make it a "PES T-28" turbo.
I am not 100% sure if it will work BUT I am pretty sure this housing that I linked would be the same one that PES used. Things like this seem to be off the shelf.
As far as the leak both surfaces mate directly with no gasket in between so if the mating surfaces warped somehow or the studs loosened you'll get a leak.
How bad is it? Do you get visible soot?<ul><li><a href="http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=ATP-HSG-005&Category_Code=HSG">Housing that MIGHT be compatible...</a></li></ul>

I have not seen it in person, but I guess it is losing about 7psi due to the leak....
I guess it sounds a little different too.
I am just trying to decide if this is a deal breaker for this car... Everything else is perfect.
If all it takes is a new hotside housing, then that sounds like the way to go...
Thanks for the info!

wow...7PSI...yeah that's a ton.
However if it's just swapping the hotside you should be ok. I would definitely change the studs from the mani to turbo and fabricate some additional turbo bracket. I had broken studs twice now and I think it could have used additional support like the OEM setup had with a smaller/lighter turbo and mani.
Good luck with whatever route you go!

Sure does.. my leak seems to go away after the exhaust gets nice and hot..
I did notice that my hotside to Test Pipe nuts were fairly loose when I took them off this time around.. could have been just loose enough to let some exhaust out before heating and expanding.
I'll be inspecting the TP and DP to flex pipe when the rest is out.
