I'd like to change my brake rotors but the pads are relatively new and I would hate throwing them out (+ I'm cheap). Can I just change the rotors to new ones but leave the old used pads? I was told by someone that you *have* to change the pads to new ones too. Is that BS?
Thanks!

you could do that, however doesn't it make more sense to buy new pads to set in the new rotors for an extra $40? I dunno thats just how I work..

if you really want/need to pinch pennies, take some coarse sand paper and sand surface of the pad. A concrete driveway will work in a pinch if you don't have sandpaper...the goal here is to remove the glaze on the pad.
but, as everybody said, it's recommended to change both at the same time.
Hope that helps!
