It said that the S-02s had great dry weather traction but it's wet weather traction suffered.
The S-02PPs adressed the wet weather problem.

Here is a quote that seems to sum up the differences between the S02's and the S02PP.

"The Potenza S-02 Pole Position features a unique Dual-Layer Tread comprised of two rubber compounds, one layered on top of the other. As the top layer wears to about half tread depth, it begins to expose the underlayer which has a higher silica content to provide more wet grip.
