Yeah, I had this problem in April this year - first replaced my struts because they were the cause of exactly what you described - the same day I replaced the struts, I hit a really large rock in the road on a dark road - and bent my brand new RS6 alloy wheel - then I had a vibration - had to replace all four wheels and tires - but now no more vibrations or thuds.
