Can a stock 1.8T beat a 2.8?

I pulled up next to a black 2.8 last night and it was on. I seemingly pulled away from him pretty fast. I imagine that his car had to have been stock as well, but I would figure that the 2.8 would be a faster car. What do you think?

In 2001, Audi upped the horsepower on the 1.8T to 170 hp.
All 1996 and 1997 2.8's came with a 12 valve motor good for 170 hp. 1998 and beyond were good for about 190 hp.
Tiptronic trannies sap horsepower!
So...a 12 valve with a tiptronic against a 2001 1.8T with a manual (both with quattro), I would lay money on the 1.8T. Otherwise, the V6 would probably take it.
Look in the AW Model Guide on the top menu bar...you can go through specs of each model year and each configuration...there might be 0-60 times in there.

Several factors. Are you FWD or AWD? Do you have a 170HP 1.8T or the 150HP? Are you auto or manual? If he had even a 2001 2.8 and he had AWD with tiptronic, he'd look like a slug off the line.
