My friend just purchased a used a4, the previous owner said the car was chipped. We took the ecu out to look at it, but it doesnt seem to have any modifications on it. Is there any other way to find out of the car was really chipped ?

did he tell you what type of chip. there should most likely be one soldered on there.

you won't be able to see the modifications to the ECU unless you open it up, and i don't think you wanna do that.

once you see speed limit surpassed you know it's chipped.

i can see my chip on my ECU. It says GIAC in big letters. And says for off road use only.

um, maybe they didnt drive up to 132+ mph

So even if they went 200mph it would not be logged anywhere.

If the engine speed is exceeded it will log it, and that's only if you pull a bonehead move resulting int he revs jumping up really high.
