Can't get Check Engine Light to Reset

Have a 98 A4 2.8 and I'm trying to reset the check engine light. I've disconnected the ECU for 10+ mins but the light doesn't reset. The car runs fine so I'm not sure if there is really a problem or not. Searching the archives seems to indicate that everyone just disconnects their ecu for a while to reset the light. What am I doing wrong?

try again..... you might need a vagtool... sometimes disconnecting an ecu does not work.

sometimes you have to drive around for a while for it to clear.
