Pretty cool idea! My wife's '05 Honda Odyssey (sorry for the 'H' word) has some kind of...
faint orange light that projects from the overhead console and lights up the cup holder area. It's a very small bulb (might be an LED) and the light is completely un-annoying, but does a fine job of illuminating that area. Can even use it to read a map in a pinch. I'm thinking about seeing it one can be added to my A4.
... IIRC from reading the 'how to' it seemed pretty easy.
