Default look at the sidewall for psi.

If it is 44psi cold. I put in 40psi cold. I usually try to put in 5psi less than max. That works for me and my tires have lasted forever. Actually, I wish they would die so I can buy some new ones. There are varied opinions on this..Discount Tire likes to put 35 in a 44psi low prifile tire..which is stupid.

Default it's not stupid...

the PSI you put in depends on the load rating of the tire as well as on the weight of the car. On a light car, 35 PSI may be more than enough.

Actually on the A4, the recommended PSI for 225/45/17 tires is 36 front/34 rear, and that's what I've been running for a long time without any probs. For 225/40/18, I'd add a few PSI more though since the air cushion is a bit smaller.

Default That is basically what I said.

I run 40 series. 35 psi in my tires is no good. Been there, done that. Like you said, it depends on a few factors. The main thing is not to trust these tire places to do the correct air pressure. Well, atleast not the places around here. You should check psi after you drive the car with the new tires, which they do not do.

Default hahah....the sidewall is rated at max pressure. Your tires last forever

because you aren't driving on them! Seriously, bring them down to 36-38 tops.
