Car covers and snow?

I live in the Boston area, and despite my continual urging my landlord will not build me a garage. I'm not looking forward to beating ice off of my A4 this winter. I'm wondering if it would be wise to use a car cover when it snows. Will this protect the car, or will I just have a cover frozen onto it that will peel the paint off if I try to remove it? Thanks.

This topic was addressed a couple weeks ago.....Not only will you have a helluva time getting that cover off after a nice storm of freezing rain or heavy snow, you'll likely scratch the paint
up pretty good putting it on and taking it off every day with dirt, grim, road salt, etc on your car. That dirt will inevitably transfer onto the inside of the cover itself, so even when you've washed the car the possiblity of damage thereafter remains. The likely damage caused by using a cover this way is greater than the potential damage caused by exposure to the elements. Give that car a nice coat of wax (or two) now, keep it as free of salt as you can during the winter and you shouldn't have any problems. If you don't relish the idea of having to scrape the windshield etc. every day, are looking for something temporary and don't want to spend any cash, if you have the right location try stringing up a tarp affixed to four or more trees. Then all you have to do is keep the tarp free of ice, rain and snow.
WIlling to spend around $700 on an attached DIY carport? Check out this link: http://www.rontimco.com/awnonle.html
For about $1,100 there's the freestanding Qudragon from Kyner (see pic below), which I personally think is a great solution for the money and handles a heavy snow load (the pic of that at their site is great!). See the link below.
