as for the camera...which lenses are you getting?

Default 70-200 f/2.8 maybe IS, but for day outdoors i don't think it's needed.

24mm f/2.8 or 24-70 f/2.8

Default that's an awesome lens, too rich for my blood though. I usually rent it

$15/day, for track events...

I'll probably just get a 24-70 f/2.8 to always have with the camera, and will rent the rest when need be.
also gotta buy a few microdrives...

expensive hobby but fun

Default go solid state for storage man... microdrives are nice but don't take to travel/bumpy roads well.

btw bhphoto has the new 300D listed already... and at 900 bucks(as marketed) it's a pretty good deal over the 10D... Get the 70-200, great lens man.

Default yeah was thinking of that too, but for motorsport photography

getting the most fps + larger buffer will be very useful
