Default Car stalling at idle...

Over the past month now I have been having stalling problems with my car at idle. Not only does it stall but she idles all over the place and will jump from idling at 1100 rpm down to normal idle (650 - 700). It is really weird. I have already cleaned my ICV a couple months back so does this mean that it could be broken? A friend of mine also said that the EGR valve could be stuck open or something to that effect ???
It has been getting worse daily but on occasion it will idle as if nothing was wrong.
Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated.
BTW, I have a '96 2.8qm (12v) w/ 214k km
Thanks!

Default Could be the maf going bad or dirty

have you tried running the car with the maf unplugged to see if your idle smooths out.

Default You can just unplug the maf which should be right inside the air box

should be able to remove the plug from the top of the box. Just do this and then try starting the car up to see if the idle smooths out, if it does then the maf readings are off and you should then try cleaning it.

Default 1st check the MAF sensor.....(m)

are u running a K&N air filter? The MAF can be oily or dirty....(u can clean this, do a search)
2nd....U need to check the coolant temp sensor...the ECU adjusts parameters according to the engine temp...if the sensor sents the wrong info to the ecu then things will be wacky!!
3nd...the EGR valve can be stuck open or not functioning at its proper values...
4th check ALL vacumm lines around the intake.
Have u gotten any CEL lights????
How's your spark plugs? and even more important how's the spark plug wires...(from what i hear the OEM wires are junk and need to be replaced every 30,000 miles).

Good luck
DG

Default Yess I have a K&N...(edited)

I guess I will have to clean it and the MAF. I replaced the sparkplugs about a year ago but not the wires, as far as I know they are original.
And yess I do have a CEL! I guess that should have been checked before I asked the question.

Thanks for the detailed info, I really appreciate it. Off to hunt for the problem.

Thanks again!

Did you check the resistance of the ICV? If it's less than 9 ohms (I think) it needs to be replaced.
