Car takes forever to heat up.

water pump?
friend was running a water pump with a smaller impeller... this fooked up how long it took for his car to warm up.It's worth checking to see how the pump is doing

mine was doing the same thing, I replaced the temp sensor. Also just got notice of recall on sensor
100k or 10 year replacement on it. It might be toast. Anyone else get this? I can scan it if need be or if it hasn't already been posted.

hmmm, what are the symptoms of water pump failure?
now that you mention it, back at 60k miles when I had the timing belt done by the dealer, they "did me a favor so I could save money" ... i told them to change it but they didn't, and said it was fine.
In that case..I have the original water pump with 106k miles on it.
I suppose if the water pump went it would cause an over heating condition.

It takes a thermostat breach the size of a 3/16" drill bit to cause the symptoms you are describing.
I found out the hard way since I had to open up the TB area to replace what I thought was a cool mod for track use.
An experiment is cover up the top part of your radiator (AC condenser) with foil or cardboard after startup. If your car starts to warm up faster, then you have a breach in your t-stat allowing water to flow through the radiator and cooling the engine. On a winter day, you don't need the fans to cool the radiator to see what you are experiencing.
So BTDT including the foil It's rough not having heated seats sometimes (on the A4)
BTW, did you add an oil cooler, and if so is it thermostatically controlled?
you can always mod the cooling system too Although mine was to cool it (the TT) down.

It's ABS plastic. Easy to cut, easy to bend with a heat gun, easy to glue or screw together..
Good heat sheilding properties (like stock airbox). That particular one was about 1/8" thick.

soo.. i covered the radiator completely and it still takes forever to heat up
it's got to be the FMIC, the intake manifold was freezing cold. i think the freezing air is cooling the engine block from the inside and keeping the coolant cold.
im gonna try blocking off the FMIC tomorrow, and remove my intake heat shield.
