Starting my car off in first is very difficult; second is marginally easier; third and fourth, at appropriate speeds, are OK. I think the throwout bearing might be bad [vs. a 4Ok-old O34 pressure plate being bad]
When coming to a stop with the car still in first or second, the engine feels as if it wants to stall; IE, the clutch is not totally disengaging.
Are these symptoms of a bad throwout bearing?

throwout bearing going bad sounds like bad clutch chatter when disengaging the clutch. (usually)
maybe it can cause this, not really sure.. way back before i got my hands dirty with this car i had a similar problem.. where it was pretty tough to get it into first after the car had sat (like overnight). took it to my shop and they "adjusted the clutch" and it was fixed.
maybe someone more knowledgeable can elaborate. apparently it was a simple procedure.

I fully admit i dont know what they did. Apparently it was simple.
I dont have alot of experience with manuals.

intermittently. Currently at the shop to be picked up tomorrow. Supposedly it needed 2 tranny mounts and was low on trans fluid. Clutch, while releasing quite high, was not slipping. Not bad for 173,000 miles.

even after I changed the fluid. Ended up being just linkage adjustment of that one 6mm bolt under the boot. Over time it got shifted slightly to the right and bringing it back to the left made all the difference in the world for putting it into 1st and shifting into 2nd.
