Weird. I've had this happen twice now in the past few months. After refueling, my 1998.5 A4 2.8 QMS won't want to start after filling up at the pump. Cranks fine, but just cranks and cranks and cranks... only gets started (barely, roughly) after applying some throttle. Barely got it started today after 4-5 attempts at the gas station. Died a few times, very rough idle after the throttle pump, FINALLY got it fired up and throttled it up to 2 or 3K before it settled back down to a smooth idle where it wouldn't die and I could drive it away. 145K on the clock.
One day before today's incident, the CEL came on full, not blinking.
Thoughts? Fuel carrier signal? Vapor lock? Something else I should be alerting the mechanic of that could set this off?
