Carputer question for everyone here.

I built mine but totally gave up when it came time
to putting it in. I just spent sooo much time getting it the way I wanted it, that when it came time to put it in, it was winter and I really had lost the drive. I first started by building my own, then switched to a micro-pc made by Jadetec, then to a Cappuccino PC.
If you could make an all in one solution less the OS and came in under(or around) $500 shipped then you'd have a HUGE audience. Not only for Audi but many other cars. I sold my setup to a guy with a Z06. He absolutly loves it. Count me in if you are going to put these out!

I'm aware of how to do it
but he's talking about trying to pimp a standard configuration. I'm just saying that one size doesn't fit all. Most people who do these things have some specific requirements.
I should have added a AM/FM tuner to my list.

I'd buy it - some requirements...
I would definitely buy one. Here are some requirements:
Full support of stock bose functionality - fm/am/changer-phatbox etc.
Zero boot time. It would need a pre-boot manager builtin. I read something on the forums once about a guy who handled that. He had something wired in to boot the computer on unlocking the doors and shut it down five minutes after locking. Something like that would be mandatory.
Stock integration of car accessories: All the stock speakers + phone mike would have to wire right in.
Touchscreen.
Bluetooth phone integration.
Software for vagcom - having some stats pull from a live vag feed would be nice.
Software for wifi. Any box with hardware could pull a wifi signal, but a manager tweaked for mobile application would be ideal. Something that constantly searched signals, locked into them, and only went live once it could tell they were unencrypted, had no DHCP restrictions, and gave full outbound connectivity would be ideal. It would have to seem like it was always only without requiring the driver to futz with SSIDs and picking access points to lock onto.
Navi. Again remember once you take over that hole in the dash, you better do anything that removed devices did. Navi, stock radio functionality, bluetooth phone etc. Basically do everything the RNS-E does with the PC extras.
