CD Changer Installation
Just installed a CD changer in my 1999 A4 and thought it was worth posting my experience for those thinking of doing the same. I got the OEM changer (actually a Panasonic unit).
Removed the lining on the back of the trunk lip. Loosened the liner on the left, around the CD changer/tool box bracket.
Now the hard part was getting those four black screws they sold me with the changer to fit thru the black bracket and into the changer. After 15 min of trying to get those !@#$% screws into the !@#$% holes, I decided to remove the entire bracket.
Now, this is a new tactic not previously mentioned here (I think). With a #8 metric socket and 6" extension, I removed the 5 black mounting bolts and had the bracket out in 5 min. It took another 5 min to mount the CD changer with those wonderful little black screws. 10 min to remount the bracket and put the liners back in place.
Pretty easy and I am enjoying my A4 even more now with CD quality music!
