Cd Changer Installation: Variation on a theme
I'm posting this because while I was researching cd changer options, I never came across this variation.
I ordered the panasonic 8 disc changer from autotoys (cx-dp801) for $235 complete with adapter. I just finished installing it and it took about two hours including a 30 minute trip to the hardware store and another 30 minutes re-thinking my mounting options.
I ended up installing the changer on the underside of the trunk deck. I chose this because with the mounting hardware that autotoys provides, the changer would have sat too far away from the trunk side (at least for me) using the floor mounting option. I found the changer wires etc. using the methods suggested in the faq section. Then I marked where I wanted the changer brackets to go using a pencil. Next I used the black tar-like substance provided by autotoys to secure the brackets in place. Finally, I used four self-tapping screws to permanently secure the brackets.
Note: When placing the brackets I chose areas that were not flush with the deck board. I did this for two reasons 1) convenience - they lined up the best 2) to give the self taping screws more clearance (I also used the shortest self tapping screws I could find.
Hopefully I helped somebody.
Stephen S.
99 1.8tqms (clear corners and a new 8 disc changer)
