Default CD Changer Question

I have a 1997 2.8 Quattro. Which is pre wired for a CD changer. I wanted to know if I had to buy a audi cd changer or could I buy any other brand CD changer and use an adaptor with it to make it work. Please any help is appreciated.

Default I believe you're going to have to go with the proprietary, 8pin changer made by Alpine.

And it's a pretty penny (compared to the changers for the newer cars). Look to pay $250-300 for a used one, even more for brand new probably. I've never heard of an adaptor for the 8-pin. Usually there are a couple on eBay, but I don't see any at the moment. Good luck

Lots of people do the panasonic changer. I think it's a little cheaper

Thank you for the help, I figure out they make cd changer interface for a 1998 13 pin, but they don't make any for a 8 pin. I guess I will have to spend some money and get a audi 8 pin changer

Yeah, '97 and older are 8-pin. '98 and newer are 13-pin, so it seems.

you get the converter plug that everyone usually has to get. it's expensive, like 50 smackers

Default You are wrong. There is no converter plug for the Panasonic changer to a '97 cable...

Unless you are talking about an FM modulator (universal add on) which does not use the HU for CD changer control.

The early 98 and older A4's used a different headunit and CD changer, which are not compatible with the Panasonic changers.

Please do a search.
