Default CEL and shaking car...what could this be?

well I was driving home last night, cruising in 4th gear, when all of a sudden the CEL kicked on and the car began to stutter. There was a lot of movement coming from the engine, and in turn the car was shaking. I pulled over at my friends house, as it was literally 2 seconds away and went inside to search the AW forum to see if I could figure out what it was. The car sat for about 45 minutes, and when I got back in it to drive it home, it was absolutely fine. The CEL is still on, so at the moment I am not driving i as I don't know what the problem is. Anybody want to take a stab at it? Possible coilpack failure?? But it is fine now....oh the car sat for a week too while I was away if that matters.

Default dont have a VAG....I was wondering if the car is ok to drive to get to someone who has one.

the CEL was originally blinking, but now it was just solid.

Default If it's running normal, I'd venture it's ok to drive. Be aware it may come back

When one of my coilpacks failed.. it started out intermittent.. but usually was only when the engine was still cold that it acted up.

Default basically, if misfire codes are only on one cylinder, that narrows things down.

If it's all over the place, you gotta look back further in the system.

Default Bad plugs or ignition amplifier.

The fact that it's running fine now is a mystery. Odds are whatever the problem is will come back...and soon.

Default a) open hood b) look for "bad ****"

a simple cracked vac line can cause what you experienced.

Default swap coilpacks and plugs from cyl 2 and 3.

If the misfiring returns, go back and check the codes. If it moved to cylinder 3, it's the plug or coilpack. If it stayed in 2, it's probably the ignition amplifier. Do a search for ignition amplifier or POS (power output stage) for more info. Normall they just fail, and the car will not run right. Yours might be very close to dead.
