Changed air filter, fourth and hardest clip fell off completely

Changed air filter, fourth and hardest clip fell off completely
i was able to retrieve the fourth clip(by the heat shield) but it came apart from the base of the filter. can't get it attached to the base! any helpful hints besides try harder?
