I am about to go look at a 2000 TQM and was told the check engine light and airbag light are on. I am familiar with all of the emissions crap on VWs that cause the check engine light to come on and just want to know if there are certain things I should check on the A4 to make sure the engine and turbo are okay before I buy it like this. Thanks!

Don't buy a car you're going to have to "guess" on. Have the owner/dealer scan the codes, and if they can't, pass.
The air bag light, at minimum, needs clearing. If it's persistent, most likely it needs a new airbag or firing unit. The dealer usually replaces everything when it does airbags.
