Default Check Engine Light on After Oil Change

Hi All,

I just had my oil changed yesterday and within a couple hours, the light came on (and is still on). It was not done at a dealer, but I supplied the factory filter and crush washer. Any ideas?

FYI - I had them put in Pennzoil Platinum (full synthetic) 5W-30.

Default That's why you should always change your own oil

It's not rocket science yet so many people come here with problems after letting someone else do it for them.

Pull the codes to find out why the check engine light is on.

Would pinching the oil sensor bring up a cel or just an oil light?

Default If I had time I would.

I know it's not rocket science, I do it all the time with my cars and bikes, but sometimes I don't have the luxury.

So how do I pull the codes?

Default Mechanic or find someone local with a VAG-COM

I believe the generic code scanners will work but I'm not sure if they support all the modules in the car. Some local parts stores like autozone do this for free. They will most likely only give you a code number, but someone here should be able to look up the description for you.

There are some oil pressure and temperature related OBD-II codes, so it is possible

5w-30 in a V6? Good luck with that.

IIRC, when the oil light came on in an A6 2.8 30v loaner car, the manual said to use 5w30 ::shrugs::
