Default Check Engine light appeared for one day, then went away...

Has anyone else had this happened? Any ideas as to the cause? Is this worth bringing the car into the dealer for?

Default Had the same problem... (more)

I was out of the country for over a month and the car was just sitting for the entire time. I came back and when I started the engine it pinged for the first 10 minutes or so and the check engine light came on. I was about to take it to the dealer, but after 10-30 minutes of driving around and letting the engine run it smoothed out. I ran the gas until it was literally almost empty and put a fresh 15.5 gallons of 94 octane. It has been fine since. The next time I left the country I asked a friend to just start the car and let it run once a week for a minute or two and everything was fine when I came back. My friend's fiancee had the same problem with her A6. It seems these cars want to be driven as much as we want to drive them

That's my experience, hope it helps.

Default It happens when you start the car and then turn it off quickly. Like moving it out of the garage!(m)

If you move the car 10-15 feet and then turn it off the engine registers a miss fire. The ecu clears itself
after a while of the engine running properly.

I don't know if this will help but, here goes: I had my MIL go on a few times on my '01 1.8. The dealer replaced the coolant temp. sensor, and no more MIL!

You may want to check that you are not over- filling the gas tank, too.

HTH.
